A New Lambton Heights residence steeped in history and surrounded by some of Newcastle's finest homes has been listed for sale.
McGrath New Lambton's Todd Mason is marketing the versatile three-bedroom residence on 1394 square metres of land overlooking Blackbutt Reserve at 183 Croudace Street.
Known as Pulborough, the two-storey Cape Cod style home is believed to have been designed in 1940 by Newcastle architects Hoskings and Pilgrim and built for Wallsend pharmacist John Kelso Fagan. It featured a maid's room on the ground floor, which is now the library, and an attic studio over the double garage.
It was bought in 1950 by Agnes Scholey, one of six daughters of John Scholey, a prominent Newcastle businessman and a mayor of Waratah. Roses that she brought from the family's residence of Mayfield House still bloom in Pulborough's garden.
The current owners bought Pulborough in 1998 and through a 22-year "labour of love" have renovated and restored the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home and its garden. It features bespoke finishes throughout and has no shortage of private, outdoor spaces. A guide has not been set.
