A total of 36 people have died with COVID-19 in Bristol's hospitals in one week

Almost 40 people have died in hospitals across the Bristol area after contracting coronavirus.

New figures released today (Monday) show between April 4 to 11, a total of 36 died while being cared for at the University Hospitals NHS Trust and the North Bristol NHS Trust.

Since the Covid-19 crisis first began, 89 people have lost their lives while being treated in one of our city's hospitals.

While in Weston General, three patients have died.

Across Bristol, 333 people have now tested positive for the deadly virus.

It's likely the real figure is in the thousands however because the government is currently only testing certain patients and some NHS workers.

Covid-19- related deaths climbed to 11,344 today (Monday) after 697 more patients died in just one day.

The NHS reported 667 new deaths in hospitals in England on Monday, while Wales recorded 15, Scotland nine and Northern Ireland six.

During this weekend's heatwave, police confirmed they kicked out ‘about 70 people’ who were sunbathing or having picnics in Ashton Court.

Temperatures across the country peaked at 25.5C on Saturday, with some people taking advantage of the warm weather, despite Government warnings for everyone to stay home in order to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

The force has also appealed to people to report apparent breaches of the lockdown online after an ‘extremely high volume’ of calls to the police’s special ‘hotline’.
