An alligator was spotted in the Humboldt Park Lagoon Tuesday, setting off a search for the reptile by city officials with help of a local wrangler known as “Alligator Bob.”
Crowds of visitors have grown since the initial spotting, with 150 gathering near the water Wednesday hoping to catch a glimpse of the alligator. The animal has made headlines around the world, and even has a Twitter handle dedicated to it with nearly 2,000 followers.
Authorities have erected signs warning of an alligator in the area. “Avoid alligator attack,” the sign reads. “Stay away from tall grass and water.” Thursday, fences were being mounted around the lagoon.
“Alligator Bob” has set traps for the animal, but by Thursday afternoon the gator still hadn’t been captured.
