A timeline of the Cowboys’ exhausting, long overdue breakup with Jason Garrett

Jason Garrett is out as the Dallas Cowboys head coach, although as of publishing this post, it hasn’t been made official by the organization.

Per an ESPN report, “team owner/general manager Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones have decided the coach will not be part of the organization moving forward.”

That’s as much as we’ve gotten by Friday, ending a week of speculation, some other reports about what Jones planned on doing and a whole bunch of “WELL? WE’RE WAITING!” from NFL fans.

Let’s take a look back on that week, which started with the Cowboys being eliminated from the playoffs:

Sunday

The Cowboys beat the Washington Redskins at AT&T Stadium, but with the Philadelphia Eagles winning, Dallas was out of the postseason.

Jones wouldn’t say after the game what he was going to do with Garrett.

“I really want to make sure I’m clear about that and communicate that there’s no door shut here tonight,” Jones said, via USA TODAY Sports. “None, anywhere, is shut. This is not what this about. … I’m not doing that here.”

Monday

Black Monday came … but conflicting reports came and went about Garrett’s status.

Then, fans went off when they learned there would be no news.

Tuesday

Garrett met with the team … and then nothing happened. We had to wait yet another day.

Wednesday

No meeting on New Year’s Day!

Thursday

We FINALLY get to the report that Jones is moving on from Garrett after attempting to give him “an abundance of care and respect.”
