A third of over-50s say they're having the 'most adventurous SEX of their lives'

Growing old is something that many people dread, but the results of a new survey may give you something to look forward to.

The survey, by dating app Lumen, has revealed that a third of over-50s say they’re having the ‘most adventurous sex of their lives.’

In the survey, 2,000 Brits aged 50 or older were surveyed about their sex lives, and it seems that many are still pretty *ehem* active.

Over a third of respondents said that their sex lives were more adventurous than ever, with an increase in inhibitions listed as the top reason why.

Meanwhile, 30% said that having more down time has led to experimenting in the bedroom, and 10% simply said their libido was higher.

Antoine Argouges, co-Founder and CEO of Lumen, said: “Of course the over 50s are having more adventurous sex, they’re more comfortable in their own skin and know what they want. It’s something that should be celebrated, not recoiled from.”

While many over-50s are having great sex, it seems that this age-group may not be adopting the safest sexual health practises.

80% of respondents said that they’ve never been checked for STIs , and over half said they never use protection when having sex.

Worryingly, recent statistics have revealed that STIs are on the rise in this demographic, with cases of chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis increasing by more than a third over the last decade.

Based on the findings, Lumen is launching a safe-sex campaign aimed at the over-50s.

Mr Argouges added: “Our app is all about anti-ageism, body confidence and helping to create meaningful and genuine connections.

“But we also want to encourage healthy and safe relationships, which is why we’ll be partnering with sexual health educators and brands to help tackle the rise of STIs in the over 50s.

“We know this is a serious issue amongst the over 50s, and as a dating app specifically for that audience, we know we have an opportunity to bring this to their attention."
