A teenager banned from driving was caught on the M60 in a Merc driving his mates back to London

A 16-year-old lad banned from driving was caught behind the wheel of a Mercedes taking his pals back to London. The C200 was boxed in by traffic police on the M56 after it was spotted on Princess Parkway.

Intelligence linked the vehicle to a wanted man from London, but when officers pulled the Mercedes on Wednesday morning they found the teenager behind the wheel.

Inside the car were two other lads - both aged 18.

The 16-year-old - who had previously been disqualified from driving - was reported for traffic offences and the car seized.

GMP Traffic confirmed all three were from London and were having to find another way home.

Enquiries to find the wanted man are ongoing.

The incident was just one of several dealt with by GMP Traffic on Wednesday.

Earlier that morning, a 40-year-old from Warrington was arrested on the M62 between Rochdale and Huddersfield after being caught driving a Seat Leon on false plates.

The man coughed to having no insurance and also tested positive for cannabis.

He was taken to Bury police station and quizzed on suspicion of driving a vehicle over the prescribed drug limit and having no insurance before being released under investigation.

At around 1pm, traffic officers saw a BMW with L plates on the M60 near junction 6 for Sale.

The woman behind the wheel was driving 'very cautiously', and when police pulled her over on Marsland Road a few minutes later, they discovered she was being given a driving lesson by her husband.

Unfortunately for him, there were no dual controls fitted and he himself had only passed his test two-and-a-half years earlier.

Both were reported for insurance offences and will appear in court in the near future.
