A teenage boy is in hospital after a machete attack and police are investigating gunshots nearby at the same time

A teenager was attacked with a machete and gunshots were heard at the same time in Tameside.

Police are now investigating if the two incidents on neighbouring streets in Droylsden on Saturday night are linked.

A 16 year-old was assaulted with a machete close to Brierfield House, a block of flats on Lancaster Road at around 9:40pm Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Emergency services were called and he was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The cordon spanned several streets (ASP)

Around the same time police also received reports of what appeared to be gunshots on neighbouring York Road, which runs off Lancaster Road.

"We are investigating whether these two incidents are linked or not" a GMP spokeswoman said.
