A taste of the future

With carbonated drinks seeing drops in sales growth over the past few years, and the overall industry braving escalating threats from disruptive technology, Suntory PepsiCo Beverage Thailand Co (SPBT) is revamping its business structure to stay afloat in the longer term.

Omer Malik, the company's general manager, told the Bangkok Post in an exclusive interview that the firm is busy expanding further into non-carbonated soft drinks and reducing the heavy reliance on carbonated soft drinks, which still contributes more than half of the company's sales.

"Thailand's carbonated soft drinks grew at a slower pace in the past few years because of increasing health-conscious consumers, leading many companies to offer multiple choices from tea, premium fruit juices, sports drinks to functional drinks," Mr Malik said. "But we see it as huge potential to grow our business in Thailand, and we're ready to keep abreast of the changes. That's why we've entered a joint venture with Suntory, one of the leading global beverage companies, to expand our business here."
