A swan was rescued by police after it landed in the central reservation of the A19

Thank you to everyone who continues to stay at home and not ‘swan around’ like this feathered friend!

As lockdown continues, the roads have become considerably quieter. And as result, this swan thought nothing there was little danger in landing in the central reservation of the A19 in Sunderland.

Police received a call from a concerned passer-by and moved quickly to rescue the huge bird.

Worried that it could cause an accident or be hurt, PC Steve Hackett of our Motor Patrols Department arrived and safely collected the swan from the central reservation and transported it back to the lake nearby.

A spokesman said: "We would like to thank the member of the public for informing us of this so we could safely take the bird back to its habitat and reduce the danger of any accidents on the road."
