Here is a summary of what disgraced Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee President Yoshiro Mori said on Feb. 3 regarding meetings with many women as participants.
Appointing more female board members [for the Japanese Olympic Committee] is something the education ministry is nagging us to do, but a board meeting with many female members takes a long time. The [Japan] Rugby Football Union's board meetings now take twice as long as before.
Women have a strong sense of competition. If one person raises a hand and says something, others probably feel they have to speak as well. So everyone starts speaking out. Following the previous speaker, they freely have their says one after another.
If I say too much, then I'll be told, "Mori is bad-mouthing again," but if we are to increase the number of women [on the board], we must do something like setting a time limit for each statement. Otherwise, it takes ages before you can finish meetings, or so I heard. I won't say who told me that, though.
There are about seven female [board] members on the [Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games] organizing committee. All of them know their places well. They all come from competitive sports organizations and have experienced big stages internationally. Therefore, their opinions are spot-on, which we find very useful.
