A Sudden Death god rolls and how to get them in Destiny 2 Rite of the Nine

The last Rite of the Nine weapon in the Prophecy dungeon that you should be chasing is A Sudden Death, especially if you’re running melee-focused builds that benefit from perks like One-Two Punch and Trench Barrel.

A Sudden Death is a 55 RPM shotgun from the Prophecy dungeon, which is still Void in the Rite of the Nine event. The perk pool remained mainly the same, but a couple of shifts, including One-Two Punch now in the third column, made it much stronger than its older version.

Here are our PvE and PvP god rolls for A Sudden Death in Destiny 2.

A Sudden Death PvE god roll (melee)

  • Barrel: Smallbore
  • Magazine: Assault Mage
  • Perk one: One-Two Punch
  • Perk two: Trench Barrel
  • Masterwork: Reload Speed

A Sudden Death is the only shotgun in the game that can roll One-Two Punch and Trench Barrel at the same time. One-Two Punch increases melee damage by 100 percent when you land all pellets in the shot, while Trench Barrel increases weapon damage by 50 percent after a successful melee hit.

This combination is a match made in heaven for any melee build, like Strand Titan with Banner of War and Synthoceps.

A Sudden Death PvE god roll (general)

  • Barrel: Smallbore
  • Magazine: Assault Mage
  • Perk one: Envious Assassin
  • Perk two: Redirection
  • Masterwork: Range

For non-melee builds, you can look for combinations like Envious Assassin with Redirection. Redirection is a solid perk after it got buffed, allowing you to have up to 10 shots that deal 33 percent increased damage to Elites and higher-ranked targets.

Destabilizing Rounds is also present, but it’s best on primary weapons, as you want to mainly use this perk for add-clear rather than against chunky targets.

A Sudden Death PvP god roll

  • Barrel: Smoothbore
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk one: Slideshot
  • Perk two: Opening Shot
  • Masterwork: Range

On the PvP side of things, the only option is Slideshot with Opening Shot. Because A Sudden Death is an Aggressive Frame, it starts with 24 base range, and you want to increase it as much as possible. In contrast, slug shotguns, like The Inquisitor, start at around 70 range.

Slideshot grants 20 range for 1.5 seconds and partially refills the mag after sliding, and Opening Shot grants 25 range for the opening shot of the attack. When you have Smoothbore, Accurized Rounds, a range masterwork, and a Ballistics mod (slap on Adept range if you have an Adept) you can hit 98 range with both Slideshot and Opening Shot triggered. Enhancing the perks grants even more range, so you can swap the mod for something else.

While there are other decent perks, including Threat Detector and Closing Time, they won’t give you the same benefit.

How to get A Sudden Death in Destiny 2

Reprised A Sudden Death is available exclusively from the Rite of the Nine event. Like the rest of the Rite of the Nine weapons, including Long Arm and Judgment, the shotgun comes in base, holofoil base, Adept, and holofoil Adept variants.

Here are a couple more things to know to get more loot during Rite of the Nine:

  • Attune to the weapon at The Emissary for a higher chance of getting it.
  • Pick up the weapon quests from The Emissary for additional shiny copies.
  • Redeem Nonary Manifolds at The Emissary for additional weapons.
  • On weeks starting June 10, July 1, and July 8, Rite of the Nine’s Prophecy will have increased weapon drops.
