A stunning restoration of an historic Mayfield property

62A Church Street, Mayfield is for sale. Pictures supplied

An admired Victorian residence in Mayfield that has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is well-known by locals is expected to attract strong local and out-of-town interest.

Mathew Iuliano, of First National Newcastle City, is marketing the historic 1880s property at 62A Church Street with a guide of $1.25 million to $1.35 million.

Kiandra, as it is known, is believed to have been built as the rectory for St Andrew's Anglican Church. A sympathetic restoration was completed in 2016. The home has five bedrooms, a study, formal lounge and dining rooms, a return verandah and many of its beautiful original features.

The grand lounge room is being described as the home's "showpiece" with a coloured glass bay window, open fireplace and a spectacular plaster ceiling. Referred to as the ballroom, it is believed to have once hosted dances for the local community.

"It's a really unique property, a landmark home," Mr Iuliano said. "It's a house that doesn't come up very often and is a really stand-out, special place."

Period features includes soaring 3.5-metre cedar lined ceilings, kauri pine floors, six fireplaces, picture rails and a 13.4m long hallway comprising three corbelled archways. The home is on a block 756 square metres in size.

It is set for auction on June 26 and open Saturday at 10am.

SPACE AND SERENITY: This renovated residence is expected to produce one of the biggest sales recorded for Charlestown.

Inspections are by appointment only.

"It's a pretty amazing house," Mr McKiernan said. "It's one of the largest homes I've ever seen and it feels like you're out in the bush but you're only a short walk to Charlestown Square."

Mr McKiernan said he had been inundated by enquiry during the property's first 24 hours on the market.
