A strong combine from OL Sua Opeta could put him on Seahawks radar

Every year, a handful of unheralded players come out of nowhere and put the world on notice at the NFL combine. This year, one of those players was former Weber State offensive lineman Sua Opeta.

Opeta showed off mountain man strength, repping a ridiculous 39 on the bench press. That placed first among all combine attendees by a considerable margin and is actually second in combine history behind David Molk, who repped 41 back in 2012.

As if that wasn’t enough, Opeta also ran a 5.02 40-yard dash and posted a 112-inch broad jump, which ranked fifth and eighth among all offensive lineman, respectively.

Opeta is six-foot-four and a slightly undersized 301 pounds, but his strength and relative speed make him an intriguing target for teams looking for a steal in the late rounds or possibly after the draft.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have long coveted players exactly like this, particularly guys from smaller schools who test well against all levels of competition. David Moore comes to mind as a recent target from a smaller school who has panned out quite nicely for Seattle.

Perhaps Opeta, if he makes it to Seattle, will be the Seahawks’ next success story.
