A strong auction result in Cooks Hill

A two-bedroom apartment in an art deco complex of four in Cooks Hill was marketed with a guide of $690,000 and sold under the hammer for $852,000.

There were 16 registered bidders for a two-bedroom apartment in Cooks Hill that sold under the hammer for $852,000 on May 15.

PRD Newcastle and Lake Macquarie's Jesse Wilton marketed 3/79 Tooke Street with a guide of $690,000.

He said the property in Dawson Courts, a boutique development of just four apartments built circa 1920s, attracted first home buyers, investors, downsizers and Sydney interest during its three-week auction campaign.

Mr Wilton described it as "a very strong auction" with an opening bid of $740,000 and three people vying for it in the end before an out-of-town buyer secured the property.

According to Australian Property Monitors data, the apartment last traded for $660,000 at the peak of the market in 2017.

It was positioned diagonally across from Centennial Park and within walking distance of Darby Street cafes and restaurants, Newcastle CBD and major shopping villages.
