A Stranger Things ice cream van giving out free scoops is in Manchester today

An ice cream van themed on Netflix's hit series Stranger Things is visiting Manchester today as part of a UK tour.

The Scoops Ahoy truck will be serving out free scoops of retro ice cream desserts, with flavours including Coke Floats and Banana Boats.

The 1980s-era van is touring around the UK and Ireland to celebrate season three of the supernatural series, which is based in small-town Hawkins in Indiana.

It will visit 11 roads and streets named 'Hawkins' over the course of two weeks, which means the residents of Hawkins Close in Harpurhey will be able to grab free ice cream later today.

The action in the latest series culminates on July 4 - Independence Day - and there's a July 4th dessert on the menu with cookie dough and vanilla ice cream, a cone hat, red white and blue sprinkles, and a USA flag.

There's also a dairy-free option of Cherries Jubilee, made with cherry sorbet, dark chocolate sauce, glacé cherries and dark chocolate sprinkles.

The van itself has been given a thoroughly sci-fi makeover, with a gory supernatural monster clinging to one side of it.

Even the staff on board are dressed in the nautical costumes worn by Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Robin (Maya Hawke) at the ice cream parlour at Starcourt Mall.

Sailor hats and other props are available for ice cream-lovers to pose with outside the blue and cream ice cream van.

The Scoops Ahoy truck has already visited Hawkins Drive in Leeds, Hawkins Close in Plymouth and Hawkins Road in Cambridge, before heading to Manchester and Liverpool today.
