A special autism-friendly performance of the Lion King is coming to the Edinburgh Playhouse

A relaxed, autism-friendly performance of hit musical The Lion King will be held at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

The massively popular show was recently given a in order to meet "exceptional demand."

It has been running at London's Lyceum Theatre for the last 20-odd years and has only toured around the UK once before.

Producers are keen that no-one misses out so a show that is specifically tailored to people with autism and sensory issues will be held.

The theatre will have dedicated quiet areas and extra staff on hand during the performance at 1.30pm on January 26.

The producers say: "Autism-Friendly Relaxed Performances are specially adapted to be accessible to a wide range of audiences such as those with Autism, those with a learning disability, or anyone with sensory disposition.

"There are extra trained staff on hand, and dedicated quiet areas inside the theatre should anyone need to leave their seat.

"Any patrons who feel this performance might suit their specific needs, or the needs of their family members or companions, are warmly encouraged to attend."

Tickets for the "relaxed performance" can be purchased here.

The Lion King is due to arrive at the Edinburgh Playhosue on December 5 and run until the end of March.
