The World Photography Organisation has announced who will be judging this year's Sony World Photography Awards and to celebrate has released a teaser of entries for its "Open" competition.
The awards will celebrate some of the best photographs taken in the last 12 months. They are divided into four competitions: "professional", "open", "youth" and "student" – and a selection of "open" entries have been published ahead of the competition's closing date. Entries are still open and can be submitted online here.
"Open" is divided into 10 categories, including "street photography", "travel", "landscape" and "natural world & wildlife". Below, is an entry to the "motion" sub-category, in which Czech diver Michal Navrátil is photographed jumping next to the Guggenheim Bilbao, as part of the RedBull Cliffdiving world series 2018.
And here, an entry to the "street photography" category shows a barbershop scene taken in PanShi town, in the Sichuan Province of China.
In the "travel" entry to the open competition below, three female workers are shot while painting traditional Myanmar umbrellas.
Mike Trow, editor, photographer and chair of the judging panel, said: “What makes the Sony World Photography Awards so exciting is the range of subjects and global reach of the stories and images selected. My advice for entrants is to choose your categories carefully and believe in your story.
"Show how you see the world, and avoid cliché. Photography techniques and styles are getting more adventurous and dynamic, so technical excellence is also necessary. To impress this world-leading panel of judges will take your best output, and the ability to edit your work so it is coherent, dynamic and beautiful," he went on.
