In true Australiana fashion, a domestic Virgin Australia flight was forced to hold its horses after a sneaky, slithering snake was found in the plane. Unfortunately, Samuel L. Jackson was not there to lasso in this bad boi.
On Wednesday, officials confirmed that a Virgin Australia Flight VA337 departing from Melbourne to Brisbane was delayed for two hours after a stowaway snake was found wandering the plane’s cargo on Tuesday.
While Australia is known to house some of the world’s deadliest snakes, it was thankfully a harmless 60cm green tree snake, according to snake catcher Mark Pelley.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Pelley admitted he was worried the snake was deadly as he was trying to catch the reptilian flight crasher in the dark.
“It wasn’t until after I caught the snake that I realised that it wasn’t venomous. Until that point, it looked very dangerous to me,” he recalled.
The publication reports when Pelley embarked on the rescue mission, the sneaky bugger was partially hidden behind a panel, and could’ve slithered further into the plane’s crevices.
“I said to them if I don’t get this in one shot, it’s going to sneak through the panels and you’re going to have to evacuate the plane because at that stage I did not know what kind of snake it was,” Pelley added.
“But thankfully, I got it on the first try and captured it.
“If I didn’t get it that first time, the engineers and I would be pulling apart a (Boeing) 737 looking for a snake still right now.”
The Melbourne-based snake catcher said he believed the snake could’ve come from a passenger’s luggage, as green snakes are native to Brisbane.
With the reptile safely on the ground, it has since been taken to a veterinarian for examination and will hopefully be rehomed to a licensed snake keeper. Unfortunately, it cannot be released into the wild due to quarantine reasons, the AP reports.
With ‘Straya being ‘Straya, this isn’t the first time a snake has wreaked havoc on a flight. In 2023, a Qantas flight from Sydney to Narita was rescheduled after an eight-inch baby snake (hahaha relationship flashbacks) was found slithering around an international flight.
Honestly, I’m a ‘yuge animal lover, but I’d rather not be a part of the IRL version of Snakes On A Plane.
