A six-week-old baby has died in hospital in the UK after contracting coronavirus

A baby aged just six weeks has died after contracting coronavirus.

NHS England announced the tragic death in today's daily figures.

A further 332 deaths have been recorded at hospitals in England in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospital deaths in the region to 22,765.

NHS England said that the 332 patients were aged between six weeks and 103-years-old.

The six-week-old baby had one or more underlying health conditions.

The NHS said 22 of the patients had no known underlying health condition.

Those patients were aged between 40 and 96 years old.

The latest figures from the Department of Health and the Office of National Statistics put the UK death toll at more than 36,000.

It comes as Boris Johnson is expected to address the nation on Sunday on his plans to ease lockdown.

The UK currently has a death toll high than any other nation in Europe.
