'A significant period' Key Brentford man sidelined with serious injury picked up at Nottingham Forest

Brentford midfielder Segi Canos suffered a serious knee injury in the Championship clash with Nottingham Forest.

The Bees have confirmed the Spaniard will be out for a significant amount of time having picked up the injury toward the end of the 1-0 defeat at the City Ground last time out.

Canos wasn't substituted by head coach Thomas Frank because the Bees had made all three changes with five minutes left on the clock.

He hadn't missed a single League game and started all ten of them.

The club confirmed he had signed a new contract before commencing his rehabilitation and recovery.

Canos has made 148 appearances in all competitions for Brentford since joining from Norwich City two years ago.

He came through the Liverpool and Barcelona academies before joining the Canaries in 2016.

“The injury is extremely sad news for Sergi, but I know he will have a bright future at Brentford FC and that is why we have signed him to a new contract," Frank said.

"Injuries are the worst thing for a player and long-term ones are tough but Sergi is strong, he has a great family support network and a superb group of staff looking after him here.

“I know everyone at the Club will be doing everything they can to get him back as soon as he is ready and able.

"This is a blow for the team, Sergi has been one of our most important players this season.

"We will miss him, but this will be a chance for someone else to come in and step up for us.”
