'A shocker' - Nottingham Forest fans blast midfielder transfer decision

Marcus McGuane says it is “the happiest” he has felt, after completing a move from Nottingham Forest to Oxford United.

But many Reds fans have been left questioning the decision.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder made the move to the City Ground in February 2020, but leaves without making a single appearance for the club.

He spent this season on loan with the U’s, making a positive impression in his 21 appearances before a thigh injury ended his campaign early.

And now he has signed for the League One side on a permanent basis, penning a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Here’s what Forest supporters have been saying about the transfer.

@Hawks8920: Nice to see the lad get a chance #NFFC

@samevansnffc: Has to be a hefty sell on clause surely. Very strange. #NFFC

@wiIIbanks: hmmm not sure that’s wise at all, 7th in league one and they are all raving about him. quite obviously got talent, think that’s a shocker of a decision #nffc

@bradyo2: McGuane to Oxford on a 3 year deal confirmed. Shame he never got the chance here, was really hopeful. #nffc #oufc

@williambroome: That McGuane transfer is a bit odd. I thought he was highly rated?

@McBrads95: Well that’s annoying, was hoping he’d be given a chance before we shipped him #nffc

@Shaun_Pridden: Slightly surprised. Talented lad who I thought might breakthrough next season. I hope there are clauses in place! #nffc

@NFFCPod: Lack of foresight from #NFFC. Could come back to bite us. All the best to Marcus who is a fantastic talent.

After putting pen to paper for Oxford, McGuane said: “I have loved my time here and think it’s the happiest I have felt in my footballing career.

"I have been made to feel welcome since the very first day, the gaffer, the staff and the players have been fantastic and I was really enjoying playing until the injury.

“I am well on the way to recovery now and when we started discussing making the move permanent it was an easy decision because the club is ambitious and I want to be part of it.

“The one thing I want now is to play in front of the fans; having them at games kicks every player on that little bit more and I can’t wait to get started again now, no matter which division we are in.”
