'A sensible head' Patrick Bamford outlines what Ben White brings to Leeds United after impressive debut

Patrick Bamford has hailed Leeds United's summer recruits following their debuts in Sunday's 3-1 win over Bristol City, singling out Ben White and Helder Costa for their performances.

The striker helped the Whites make a victorious start to the new Championship season , providing a prowling threat up front and ending his goal drought to notch up the club's second with a headed finish from a Pablo Hernandez cross.

The forward, who is expected to lead the attack for United this season with Kemar Roofe's impending departure, was among a number of faces who impressed at Ashton Gate Stadium as Marcelo Bielsa's side showed their mettle once again.

New players White and Costa, both of whom have arrived at Elland Road on loan for the 2019-20 campaign, made their official debuts, with the former starting in defence and the latter making a late second-half cameo off the bench.

Speaking to media afterwards, Bamford singled out the pair's performances, in particular White for how seamlessly he has slipped into the shoes vacated by Pontus Jansson at the back.

"Yeah, I think being stable as a team, there hasn’t been that many changes in personnel," he stated. "Obviously, everyone knows that Pontus left but Ben came in and looked like he’d been there for years.

"For a young guy, he looks very composed and a sensible head at the back. That partnership between him and Coops [Liam Cooper] looks good.

Regarding Costa, who has joined from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers and will take up a permanent deal next week, he added: "I don’t really need to say anything about him, you’ve seen it before in the Championship.

"As with anyone coming into a new team, it takes time to settle, takes time to get used to the way Marcelo wants us to play. I know when I joined, but I’m sure that when he comes in from the start, he’s a top player."
