An Australian man has died during a ski trip in Japan, just days after 22-year-old Brooke Day tragically died after a ski lift accident in the country’s Hakuba Valley.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) confirmed the devastating news on Wednesday, announcing that it was providing consular assistance to the man’s family.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said, per 9News.
“Owing to our privacy obligations, we are unable to provide further comment.”
According to Japanese news agency UHB, the man, who’s reportedly in his 20s, was skiing off-course with a group of seven people between Niseko Moiwa Ski Resort and Niseko Annupuri International Ski Resort.
It’s said the man was at the back of the group before he disappeared.

He was then found unconscious by another group of skiers, who administered CPR.
Per the publication, local police said the man had “no visible injuries” and they currently investigating the cause of death.
The tragic incident comes days after Brooke Day — originally from the Sunshine Coast — was critically injured during a chairlift incident at the Tsugaike Kogen Mountain Resort on Friday. She passed away in hospital on Sunday morning.
It’s believed the 22-year-old woman went into cardiac arrest after she was stuck in a chairlift and suspended in the air.
Her parents, Deanne and Warren Day have asked for privacy “so we can bring our beautiful girl home” in a statement, per ABC News.
