A Sea of Thieves convention shuts down after people were apparently getting their drinks spiked with ‘unknown substance’

SoTFest, a Sea of Thieves community convention, apparently had to call off its afterparty early because the venue had started receiving reports of drinks being spiked with an “unknown substance.”

As first spotted by Dexerto, the fifth annual SoTFest, taking place at the Bescot Stadium in Walsall, England, had to prematurely end its afterparty on July 11, with the organizers notifying everyone via Discord that reports were made of spiked drinks.

“We had reports that there have been potentially multiple drinks spiked with an unknown substance,” the organizers said, asking everyone who has any suspicions to immediately notify the staff at their closest venue. The hotel where folks are staying was also apparently informed of the incident.

As the organizers further explained, the event’s security is currently investigating the matter and reviewing CCTV footage, with the police seemingly already aware of the situation. “We will also be banning anyone involved in this from any future events we host,” they said.

Those who feel unwell for any reason have been instructed to get themselves to a hospital as soon as possible. As Dexerto writes, organizers apparently told visitors not to take things into their own hands and to stay vigilant.

No formal proceedings seem to have started, nor have there been any statements from the police or other relevant authorities at the moment.

But if you are visiting any sort of convention, keep your wits about you and scrutinize everything you touch, eat, or drink.
