An absolutely bizarre scene unfolded Friday morning at the Scottish Open.
As you’ll see from the video below, a spectator just casually walks over to Rory McIlroy’s bag as the golfer is hanging out with Jon Rahm. The fan casually takes the driver cover off, grabs another club and looks like he’s going to practice swinging.
The reaction from McIlroy is a literal double-take — it’s sort of a “oh, uh, hi” before it’s a “wait, WHAT?!” Security stepped it and escorted the fan away.
Per ESPN, “A spokesperson for the European Tour told ESPN ‘the matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland.'”
This is so delightfully British. Everyone stands still as a man takes Rory's club for a spin. If this was in U.S., crowd would be going nuts, security guy would aggressively tackle the guy.
