Scot who nearly died on dream trip to Vietnam heading home for Christmas

A Scot who nearly died from pneumonia while on holiday in Vietnam is set to return home for Christmas – 15 months after setting off on the dream trip.

Mekala Osborne, 23, from Wallyford, East Lothian, was given a five per cent chance of survival.

But now the personal trainer will head home on December 14, after eight months in Edinburgh's Astley Ainslie Hospital.

Mekala said: “The countdown is on. I cannot bloody wait to be reunited with my friends and family.

“The 14th of December is a very significant date to me which is why I chose it as my discharge date.

“It is my Papa’s birthday.”

Mum Yvonne McAulay said: “To get her home for Christmas is the best Christmas present ever.”
