In the first half of the 1990s, a scientist by the name of Ning-Li became somewhat famous after publishing a series of papers in which she claimed to have produced an anti-gravity field. Then, in 2003, she went completely silent and nobody was able to make contact with her. Thus began a decades long search for answers which was only solved when her son finally came forward.
Ning-Li migrated from China to the United States in 1983 according to an article from the Huntsville Business Journal. She then began working at the Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research at the University of Alabama Huntsville.
Li would gain notoriety for her papers, published between 1991-1993 in which she detailed a method of producing an anti-gravity field, something which had never been done before. In fact, it is believed that anti-gravity is impossible according to physics as we understand it, it’s something that belongs in the realm of science fiction as opposed to modern day science.
However, Li and her co-author outlined a method that would involve using a high temperature superconductor. She claimed that, using one kilowatt of energy, it was possible to create a force field that would neutralize the effect of gravity within it.
A few years later, Li claimed that she had created a device that could put her theories into practice, she left her job at UAH and started her own company, AC Gravity where she continued her research. Her work could have been revolutionary had she continued to progress with it, however, after a few years Ning-Li went dark.
What happened to Ning-Li?
After 2002, the career of Li became shrouded in mystery. A video delving into her disappearance was posted to YouTube by Barely Sociable in which they share a few documents showing that Li gave a presentation in 2003 which proved her research was still ongoing.
Her last known correspondence was in May of that same year. Li sent a private email to colleagues in which she claimed to have conducted an experiment and observed an “11-kilowatts of output effect.” After that, Li went silent and nobody was able to get through to her.
So what had happened to her? Had she been silenced? Or perhaps she had fallen victim to an accident in the lab? A journalist noted her absence in 2004 after trying numerous times to contact her.
Conspiracies were shared over what had happened to the scientist and in 2008 another researcher claimed in an interview that she had returned to China to continue her experiments. They suggested that there was some sort of race between the U.S. and China to develop the first anti-gravity forcefield and that she may have even been kidnapped, “The Pentagon cannot reach her anymore.”
But what really happened?
In 2021, Ning-Li’s obituary was published on the Berryhill Funeral Home website. The funeral home was in Huntsville which suggested she wasn’t kidnapped and she didn’t return to China, she was in Huntsville the whole time.
The Huntsville Business Journal reporter was able to contact Li’s son, George to finally get some answers. He dispelled rumors that his mother had returned to China although did confirm that she had been approached by Chinese officials who attempted to recruit her back, she declined.
Ultimately her silence was down to her work taking a toll on her. The military contracts meant she could no longer publish her findings and it seems she found less enjoyment in her work. As for her death, she was sadly hit by a car in 2014 which led to brain damage and Alzheimer’s from which she passed away in 2021.
