A schoolboy was asked by a stranger to get in his van in Tameside - police are investigating

A schoolboy was asked by a stranger to get into his van as he walked to school in Tameside .

Police are investigating the incident, which happened on Tuesday morning, and say it is being treated as 'suspicious'.

It is understood the youngster was walking along Saxon Street in Droylsden at around 7.40am when a man in a small grey van shouted him.

The man asked the child to get in the van, but he ran off.

The man then drove away.

GMP said the boy made it to school safely.

He contacted his parents before the incident was reported to police.

Officers said there was no physical contact or aggression involved.

It is understood the man van was wearing a burgundy coat and a bobble hat.
