A 'savage' cat that needs rescued is terrorising Morningside locals

Morningside locals have been warned not to approach a stray cat which has been terrorising locals and their pets for the last four months.

It is unsure where the white cat came from but according to a Facebook community group the animal first appeared in the area around four months ago - and has been harassing other pet cats since.

One local wrote online: "He has bitten me a few times so I have had to stop feeding him even outdoors as he attacked me a few nights ago causing me to seek medical treatment for a very painful and infected hand."

Several other residents of Morningside commented that they too recognised the animal and that they also had issues with it attacking their pets.

According to the original post, Lothian Cat Rescue said that 'it could be 12 months before they can come' to rescue the animal however 'will take him if we can get it there.'

Locals have offered to take in the animal, pay the relevant vet bills and re-tame him - but the stray is proving elusive.

Lothian Cat Rescue told Edinburgh Live : "Due to the current climate we are only able to come and collect animals when we have space - at the moment we are completely full while we try and find homes for the cats we have in our care at present."

Lothian Cat Rescue is a no-kill shelter and registered charity based in Bonnyrigg which helps abandoned, ill-treated and unwanted cats and kittens, rehoming around 1000 a year. However, due to the pandemic there is a backlog of animals needing homes.
