Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen has taken to social media this morning to confirm he is leaving the club.
Following Sunday's Premier League finale against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, which saw Spurs secure themselves a Europa League spot with a 1-1 draw, striker Harry Kane, who scored Spurs' only goal of the game, took to social media to all but confirm Vertonghen's looming exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kane, who also all but confirmed goalkeeper Michel Vorm's exit from the club as well, wrote a touching message about the Belgian, who had donned the famous white shirt for eight years.
On Twitter, Kane said: “Wish nothing but the best for @JanVertonghen and @Vorm_Official with whatever is next for them. Been a pleasure sharing a dressing room and playing with them both."
Less than 24 hours on from Kane's message, Vertonghen, himself, has now confirmed that he is to leave the North London club this summer.
The Belgium international, who joined the club back in 2012 from Dutch giants Ajax, took to Instagram this morning to announce his departure.
"So my time at the club comes to an end," said Vertonghen. "A sad day for many reasons.
"I will miss the friends I’ve made here, the staff that make the club run, playing at the amazing new stadium &, of course, you fans.
"Thank you for all the support over the years. You’ve been amazing.
"We had many unbelievable memories but for now, it’s goodbye."
