OAKLAND, Calif. _ The Oakland A's extended their win streak to seven games with a comeback 3-2 win, clinched on Marcus Semien's RBI single in the 13th inning to come back from a 2-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the inning. Austin Allen tied things up with his RBI single, scoring Matt Chapman.
Before the big 13th inning, the A's went 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position through all 13 innings against seven different Astros pitchers. Houston's bullpen entered the series with one of the more inexperienced bullpens _ save for Ryan Pressly _ but held a decent 3.47 ERA. They made quick work of the A's in extras, allowing
Chris Bassitt allowed just one run on Kyle Tucker's RBI double, scoring Martin Maldonado. Friday against a tough Astros lineup, he allowed just three runs in seven innings with three strikeouts and three walks. He's allowed just two runs and 11 hits in his three outings _ accounting for a 1.11 ERA.
A dominant Zack Greinke kept the A's offense silent through six innings with a particularly devastating changeup. Ramon Laureano led off the sixth inning with a triple, nudged when Myles Straw slipped trying to scoop the ball on a bounce in center field. But, Greinke struck out Matt Olson and Chapman and had Mark Canha pop out foul to end the threat.
Robbie Grossman quickly tied things up once Greinke departed to sit among the cardboard cutouts, homering off reliever Josh James.
The game went to extra innings, and with that runner on second Astros manager Dusty Baker called for Maldonado to bunt _ which he did successfully. Jose Altuve, up with two outs, hit a sharp grounder that Chapman absorbed to save the run.
