ARLINGTON, Texas _ The Rangers' three-game win streak was snapped as the Athletics evened the series with a 6-3 victory Tuesday night at Globe Life Park. Joey Gallo homered in his first start in 2016 but Nick Martinez, who was also called up from Triple A Round Rock for Tuesday's start, was charged with five runs in four innings.
Oakland scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth against Martinez, who allowed six hits, including three homers. Two of them came in the fourth, a solo shot by Coco Crisp and a two-run shot by Josh Reddick. Marcus Semien led off the fifth with a homer to make it 4-0. Martinez was replaced by Alex Claudio after another single and walk. Claudio induced Jed Lowrie into a double play but Reddick's single to center scored another run to make it 5-0.
Claudio pitched a scoreless sixth before Tony Barnette and Keone Kela pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings. Sam Dyson allowed a run in the ninth after a single, walk and Crisp's single that deflected off Dyson's foot into left field for a double. Martinez took the loss and dropped to 1-3.
Athletics' right-hander Sonny Gray held the Rangers hitless through four innings before Rougned Odor opened the fifth with a single. He was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. The next hitter, Gallo, homered to left-center field to get the Rangers on the board. Ryan Rua followed with a single up the middle and Mitch Moreland's two-run homer made it 5-3. Robinson Chirinos doubled and Jurickson Profar walked before Nomar Mazara and Ian Desmond grounded out to end the inning.
