The A's have made sure to secure a contract with one of baseball's premier sluggers.
The club announced Wednesday it has reached an agreement on a one-year, $10.5 million deal with Khris Davis to avoid arbitration. The deal will make Davis the highest-paid player on the team.
Davis set career-highs in both home runs (43) and RBIs (110) last season, becoming the first player in A's history since Jimmie Foxx to put together back-to-back 40 home run seasons. Davis' 85 home runs over the past two seasons are second most in the majors, trailing only Giancarlo Stanton (86) over that span.
After playing mostly left field last season, the club indicated Davis will be the team's primary designated hitter this upcoming season, occasionally getting some starts in the outfield.
