A's Jed Lowrie named to first All-Star Game of his 11-year career

HOUSTON _ The snub has been fixed.

After the surprising omission of Jed Lowrie's name from the original list of American League All-Stars heading to Washington D.C., MLB announced Tuesday afternoon that Lowrie would be joining the team as an injury replacement to Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres.

It's not exactly the way Lowrie wanted to get in, but he's more than deserving. The first All-Star selection of his 11-year big-league career, Lowrie is in the midst of his best season. He's already matched his career-high single-season home run total, batting .288 with 16 home runs, 25 doubles, and 62 RBIs.

Entering Tuesday night's game against the Astros, Lowrie leads all American League second basemen in home runs and RBIs, has hit the second-most doubles, and owns the third-highest batting average.

Lowrie makes it two Oakland All-Stars as he'll join teammate Blake Treinen, who has been one of the most dominant closers in baseball this season.
