ARLINGTON, Texas _ The A's, who had been living on last-second heroics, got burned Monday night when Adrian Beltre clubbed a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Rangers a 7-6 win over Oakland.
Losing pitcher Ryan Madson was one out away from his 22nd save when Beltre, who'd gotten Texas close with a solo homer in the seventh, hit his 16th homer of the season and his ninth career walk-off homer to end it.
To that point, the A's were living on two-out hits of their own. All the runs in the game cane with two out, half of Oakland's six coming from first baseman Danny Valencia.
Valencia whacked a two-out homer in the first inning and triggering a three-run third inning with an RBI double.
Khris Davis and Billy Butler added RBI doubles in the third and Josh Reddick drove in a late run in the seventh.
Through their 100th game of the season, the A's are 45-55 and lost out on a chance to close to within 11 games of the first-place Rangers. With the loss, Oakland is now 13 games out of first.
