A runaway winner as Nottingham Forest fans vote on Reds' player of the season

There was a runaway winner when Nottingham Forest fans gave their verdict on the club’s player of the season so far.

There have been some standout performers among Sabri Lamouchi’s squad as the Reds have mounted a promotion push.

In something of a contrast to years past, a case could be made for several players to take the crown, with impressive displays across the pitch.

But one man finished head and shoulders above the rest when we asked supporters who would get their vote heading into the final few games of the campaign.

Matty Cash has developed into arguably the best right-back in the division in the past 12 months, cementing his place as first-choice in that position for Forest.

His form has earned him plenty of admiring glances from other clubs, including Italian giants AC Milan.

And he topped our poll for player of the season with a whopping 49 percent of the votes.

The Nigel Doughty Academy product was some way ahead of his nearest challenger, Ben Watson.

The skipper himself has had a fine campaign and collected 16 percent of the almost 1,500 votes cast, while Lewis Grabban - who bagged his 20th goal of the term in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Preston North End - finished with a 12 percent share.

The club’s reigning player of the year, Joe Lolley, was top choice to make it back-to-back honours with seven percent of the voters.

Just ahead of him, with nine percent of the votes, was goalkeeper Brice Samba, who has become something of a fans’ favourite since making the move to the City Ground last summer.

Meanwhile, defender Joe Worrall (four percent) and summer signings Sammy Ameobi (2) and Tiago Silva (1) also picked up a share of the votes.

Here is how the votes were split:

Matty Cash - 49 percent of votes

Ben Watson - 16 percent

Lewis Grabban - 12 percent

Brice Samba - 9 percent

Joe Lolley - 7 percent

Joe Worrall - 4 percent

Sammy Ameobi - 2 percent

Tiago Silva - 1 percent
