'A right-sided Van Dijk' - Liverpool fans react to Ibrahima Konate performance in France U21 defeat

Liverpool fans were delighted with Ibrahima Konate's performance for France U21 despite losing to Netherlands U21 in the last minute.

Konate captained his side alongside former centre-back partner Dayot Upamecano who has already agreed to leave RB Leipzig destined for Bayern Munich.

It was Upamecano who opened the scoring for France, powering home an excellent header in the first-half before a stroke of luck saw Myron Boadu level the scoring.

Liverpool-linked Houssem Aouar squandered a huge chance for France before the impressive Calvin Stengs split the defence with a fantastic through ball with Boadu grabbing his second at the death to knock Konate and co. out of the competition.

Konate was the man keeping the Netherlands attackers onside for the winner but that didn't take away from his dominating performance at the heart of defence.

Liverpool fans were impressed with what they saw from their new man and highlighted France's exit means Konate will get a full pre-season under his belt before making his Premier League debut.

Konate will officially join when the transfer window opens on July 1 after Liverpool triggered the £36million release clause in his contract at Leipzig.

He said after joining the Reds: "I’m really happy to be joining such a massive club like Liverpool.

“It’s a really exciting moment for me and my family and I am really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates, the staff and getting started on this new chapter."
