Aeromexico isn’t regarded as one of the best airlines in the world, and probably appropriately so. They’re a relatively small airline and their service tends to be hit-or-miss, much like the big American carriers. But if you manage to get on one of their Boeing 787-9 planes, the business class seat offered onboard is one of the best in the sky. (Note that their 787-8 has a very different business class seat which, while still lie-flat, isn’t nearly as nice. These planes can be used interchangeably on many routes, so always pay attention to the specific type and know that you may be disappointed by a late aircraft swap).
With that warning out of the way, let’s take a look at these “Super Diamond” seats from B/E Aerospace. They’ve become the gold standard for reverse herringbone seats of late, the ever popular 1-2-1 seating configuration where everyone has direct aisle access and the window seats face toward the window for added privacy and good views.
These are some of the best business class seats in the sky. And while spotty inflight service may be an issue for some on longer flights to Europe or Asia, on a medium-haul flight between the US and Mexico it’s really less of a problem. Most flights between the two countries are operated by narrow-body planes with much more basic domestic-configured premium seats, so getting a seat like this is really a treat.
These seats look great as well. The colors and materials are all inoffensive and have a quality feel. There is plenty of space to place your things. The seats aren’t too enclosed but they’re still very private. There are nice added aesthetic touches like the Aeromexico logo, which has a classic appeal that stands out nicely onboard a modern plane like this.
The plates and mugs and other service items are all well-designed too. Aeromexico have approached everything with a simple, clean aesthetic, and no ill-advised flourishes or attempts to get especially creative. That’s a very good choice here.
There is nothing especially memorable about the food and drink on offer but it’s also perfectly good. Again, it’s approached with simplicity. If one thing could be added on the drinks front, it would be nice to see Aeromexico take the opportunity to promote some of Mexico’s wide range of artisanal mezcals. It’s unique, local offerings like these that would stand out and stick in passenger memories. In any case once you land in Mexico City there’s so much good food and drink to be had, it doesn’t matter all that much.

You can find the 787-9 running most days between JFK and Mexico City, and on some days between LAX and Mexico City too. If you’re heading further afield, look for it on longer routes from Mexico City to the likes of Madrid and Paris (most days) and London and Sao Paulo (once in a while).
