SECUNDERABAD: Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy will raise the issue of closure of civilian roads in Secunderabad Cantonment by the local military authority during the budget session of Parliament which began on Monday.
Apart from the road closure issue, non-payment of service charges to the tune of Rs 900 crore and defence land allotment for the two skyways in the Cantonment will also be raised in the ongoing session. Revanth, who took stock of the road closure and others issues with SCB chief executive officer and defence estates officer of Telangana recently, is keen to talk about them in the session, sources said. Revanth, is also likely to discuss the road closure issue at the committee meeting.
Resident welfare associations of north-eastern colonies of Secunderabad have been demanding reopening of 21 civilian roads which, they alleged, were closed illegally by the LMA.
In 2016 and 2017, four public roads in Cantonment on class ‘C’ land were closed, while 10 roads on A-1 (Army) defence land were shut. In 2018 and 2019, five civilian roads were shut by LMA, followed by closure of another road in 2020 and one more last year.
With regard to allotment of a 100-acre defence land for constructing two skyways in Secunderabad Cantonment, sources said Revanth will ask for early clearance so that works could be taken up.
