Dele Alli has revealed that seeing his controversial goal given in Tottenham Hotspur's 1-1 draw with Watford was a 'relief'.
Spurs had looked on course for another miserable defeat to heap the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino before Alli struck with four minutes remaining.
The Tottenham attacker took advantage of a mistake by Ben Foster to control the ball with his shoulder before turning the ball home.
VAR came into play with the goal eventually awarded despite the screen in the stadium showing 'no goal' amid confusion.
Asked about the equalising goal, Alli explained to BBC Sport: "Of course it's a relief.
"There were two times he [the referee] stopped it when he was making the decisions. We weren't sure why.
"I was sure it didn't hit my hand but then you start thinking did it? I tried to make sure it didn't touch it so I could get the strike away."
The England international admitted that things must improve at Spurs after a run of one win in their last six matches.
He added: "We made it difficult for ourselves. We controlled the game and bossed possession. It was my first start and great to be back in the team but overall a disappointing result.
"We know we have a world-class team so it's about showing what we can do when things don't go our way. It's important we turn it around. We know how good we are, we just have to start showing it on the pitch."
