'A really good guy': Rusholme murder victim named locally as Leroy Hanley as friends and neighbours pay tribute

Neighbours and friends have paid tribute to a man who died after being found with head injuries in his south Manchester home.

A murder investigation was launched after police were called to 'reports of a disturbance' at a terraced house on Carnforth Street, Rusholme in the early hours of Tuesday.

Officers found a man in his 50s 'unresponsive' and 'collapsed' on a sofa.

Paremedics were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been named locally as Leroy Hanley.

Mr Hanley is thought to have lived on the street for a number of years.

One neighbour described him as 'such a nice guy'.

He added: "He always said hello when he walked past. I used to see him in the shop a lot.

"It's just terrible, crazy.

"You never think things like this can happen in your street."

Another neighbour also paid tribute to him, adding: "I just hope they catch who did it. People think they can do these kind of things and get away with it."

Writing on Facebook Devon Shaw said: "He was like a family member to us and a really good guy and used to always be giving us jokes, he wasn't perfect but nobody is but we all loved him regardless."

Carnforth Street was cordoned off for much of Tuesday.

Several forensics officers could be seen entering the house, while a number of evidence markers could also be seen on the pavement outside.

No arrests have been made.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Chief Insp Andrew Butterworth of GMP’s Major Incidents Team said: "Our thoughts are with the man’s family as we work to determine how he has come to lose his life.

"Our investigations are at an early stage and people in the area will notice an increased police presence over the coming days.

"If you were in the area at the time and saw anything, or have any information that can assist us, then please get in touch immediately."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 6777 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
