In 2007, a German farmer, who had won a prize for breeding Germany’s largest rabbit, was approached by the North Korean embassy as to whether he’d sell his giant rabbits to one of their breeding farms.

Hoping to help to alleviate the nation’s hunger, farmer Karl Szmolinsky agreed to sell them at a special price and planned to provide ongoing support for the farm. Yet before he arrived, the trip was cancelled, leading Szmolinsky to suspect the rabbits may have been eaten by the North Korean leader at a state banquet.

Inspired by the strange-but-true story, Patrick White award-winning playwright Kit Brookman has created a new play for Griffin Theatre. Brookman stars as Felix, the pet of the giant rabbit breeder, who finds himself in hot water. He joins Steve Rogers, Kate Box, Kaeng Chan and Mémé Thome.
