A quarter of golf pros would not help Bubba Watson in a fight, says poll

A majority of golf professionals believe Tiger Woods will win another major, according to an ESPN poll. The news wasn’t quite so good for another major winner though: Bubba Watson was named as the player least likely to be helped by his fellow pros in a fistfight.

103 pros – 21 of whom have won a major – were surveyed on a variety of questions, and they think that Woods’s glory days are not over just yet. Sixty-two percent of those surveyed said Woods has another major in him. However, the figure was 93% when the same players – who were surveyed anonymously – were polled at the start of 2015.

Watson may be looking over his shoulder when he plays the Masters this week. When asked which player they wouldn’t help out in a fight, 23 of the pros named Watson. Patrick Reed was second with Rory Sabbatini and Robert Allenby coming in third and fourth. It is unclear whether the results are down to Watson’s unpopularity or his knowledge of deadly martial arts.

Watson will be defending his Masters title this week but most of the pros surveyed (70%) don’t believe Rory McIlroy will take the green jacket off him and complete a career grand slam. Augusta’s prestige is clear, with 94 of the players saying they would still play the course even if it lost its major status.

There was also an insight into players’ lifestyle. Sixteen percent of them fly to tournaments on private aircraft while 37% of them said a car was the most expensive thing they had ever bought, apart from property. Nearly a third (31%) chose Ian Poulter as the man they would take car shopping with them.
