A quarter of diabetes patients may have undiagnosed heart failure study warns

• A new study, the TARTAN-HF trial, found that one in four diabetic patients may be living with undiagnosed heart failure.
• The research, involving over 700 people with diabetes, identified these cases through screening using a simple NT-proBNP blood test and heart ultrasound.
• Experts suggest that implementing a heart failure screening programme for diabetics could significantly improve early diagnosis and treatment.
• The study revealed that 24.9 per cent of screened patients were found to have heart failure within six months, compared to just 1 per cent in the group receiving usual care.
