A programme for government in 10 bills

Thank you for your report (Ten bills Labour wants to implement, 2 May). For weeks we have been exhausted by the often vague mass of aspirations of the manifestos. Labour’s “tombstone of promises” is similarly unfocused and the welter of individual promises on detailed issues, some of which seem mainly designed to throw the opposition off balance, serve only to confuse even the hardened campaigners. By contrast, Labour’s 10 bills are a clear and concrete statement of specifics – a draft Queen’s speech. The list makes clear what Labour’s priorities are and how it will implement them. I am not surprised that it got little notice in the rest of the press, but I hope in the last hours of the campaign Labour will make more of it. It is really clear evidence of the clear water between the parties.
