A Premier League winner and 6 forgettable players - History of Tanguy Ndombele's number 28 shirt

Tottenham have confirmed that new £63million signing Tanguy Ndombele will wear the number 28 shirt next season.

Spurs have yet to announce the shirt numbers for the rest of the squad, although many will, of course, retain the same number from the last campaign.

The new home and away kits were finally unveiled to the supporters on Thursday, confirming that the leaked images were the real deal.

And fans can pre-order a replica kit with Ndombele and 28 on the back from the official club shop now.

Ndombele's 28 shirt is not one of the most common numbers in the squad, so we thought we would take a look at the history behind the number and what the new signing has to live up to.

And there are some real rogues in here.

Tom Carroll

Englishman was the last player to wear 28 before Ndombele, having it during the 2016/17 season, although he only appeared three times before moving to Swansea.

He also wore it during the 2013/14 campaign.

Kyle Walker

The most famous Spurs player to wear the shirt in the Premier League era.

Walker adorned the shirt for four seasons between 09/10 and 12/13.

Lee Barnard

Big things were expected of Lee Barnard, but he failed to deliver.

Wore 28 for Spurs for two seasons, although saying he wore it is a bit of a stretch, he was assigned it.

Jermaine Jenas

After joining from Newcastle Jenas took the number 28 shirt, before moving on to number 8 the following season.

Scored seven goals in the shirt.

Mark Yeates

Another who was more assigned it, than wore it.

Played once in the shirt at the end of the 03/04 season and then three times in the 04/05 campaign.

Matthew Etherington

The signing from Peterborough was always a solid if unspectacular player.

It was his number for the four seasons he was at the club.

Jamie Clapham

Made just one appearance for Spurs after coming through the ranks.

Made his name at Ipswich after leaving N17.

Kevin Watson

Also came through the ranks at Spurs, but fared little better, making eight appearances for the club.

He wore 28in the 1995/96 season.

Gerry McMahon

Wore 28 in the 94/95 season, before swapping for the number 18 shirt in following campaigns.

Made 16 appearances for Tottenham between 1992 and 1996.

Paul Moran

The first player to wear the 28 shirt in the Premier League era.

Forward played 36 times in his Spurs career.
