A popular St Johns Shopping Centre store is closing after 25 years

St Johns Shopping Centre is set to lose one of its retailers which has been based there for more than 20 years.

Popular high-street chocolatier Thorntons will be closing after 25 years based on the lower level of the busy shopping centre.

A spokesperson for St Johns said: "St Johns are deeply saddened by the news of Thorntons' closure at the centre.

"While the corporate decision to alter the strategy was made away from the centre, we have continued to provide support and assistance to the store.

"We will not only miss the store's success, but also the employees that will be leaving us.

"We'd like to thank all members of the Thorntons staff for their hard work over the many years, and wish them the best of luck in the future.

"Despite the closure, St Johns continues to outperform all UK sales trends, in what is now its 50th successful year."

Thorntons has been an established brand in the UK for more than 100 years, having originally been founded in Sheffield in 1911.

The chocolate shop specialises in crafted chocolate sweets, toffee, fudge and other confectionery and also offers personalised gifts, boxes of assorted chocolates and hampers.

Chocolate fans can indulge their sweet tooth by visiting Thorntons cafe in Liverpool ONE which offers around 500 assorted products while providing a space to rest after a busy shopping excursion.
