A popular Newport boozer is up for sale again

A popular drinking spot in Newport has gone back on the market.

The Ruperra Arms in Bassaleg has gone up for sale, having most recently been sold in 2018.

Available for for £575,000, it has been a public house for more than 140 years, with the premises believed to date from the 19th century.

In recent years the pub, known locally as The Rupe, has been popular for its afternoon teas and its steak and wine nights.

Described as an "award-winning gastro pub" in a property listing online, the building is listed as "an attractive period inn in a highly sought-after location"

The Ruperra Arms was most recently bought by entrepreneur Ben Hourahine, who took it over in April 2018 and according to the listing the owner “is now looking to sell the business to focus on their other interests”.

The building has recently undergone refurbishment, including a full kitchen revamp last summer. It also has an outdoor seating area and parking facilities.

While it will be a while yet before we can go for a drink in our local, residents in Newport will be hoping this long-running, traditional watering hole will be snapped up.
