A popular Leeds Wetherspoons pub is to begin major developments in preparation for it reopening this summer once the national lockdown restrictions have been lifted.
Stick or Twist, based in Leeds city centre, popular with music lovers looking for a pre-gig pint at Leeds First Direct Arena, closed in 2018, but is now set to re-open on July 6, creating 60 new jobs.
The former Stick or Twist pub was knocked down in place for student flats - but Wetherspoon had a lease that didn’t expire until 2037, and therefore agreed a deal with the developer of the student block to reopen on the ground floor once the development was completed.

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon is to start development work on its pub next month.
The pub, which first opened in 1997, was demolished in 2018 by the landlord of the property in order to build a new unit with student accommodation above.
Spoons will spend £1.8m redeveloping the pub, which will be 25 per cent larger than the original.
It will offer 4,000 square foot of customer space, all on one level as well as outside terraces to the front and side of the building, with bifold doors opening onto it from the pub.
The open kitchen will be double the original size.
Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “We are delighted that The Stick or Twist is set to open once again.
“The pub was open for 21 years and was extremely popular.
“We are confident that existing as well as new customers will welcome the pub’s reopening and be impressed with its new-look.
“Wetherspoon has always enjoyed great success in Leeds and this investment in the new pub highlights our commitment to the city.”
