'A player Rangnick loves' - RB Leipzig chief lifts lid on Amadou Haidara amid Manchester United links

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff admits the club's former manager Ralf Rangnick 'loves' Amadou Haidara amid links with a move to Manchester United next year.

Rangnick was appointed as United's interim manager until the end of the season and could look to reinforce the squad he inherited in the upcoming January transfer window.

A new central midfielder is believed to be United's transfer priority regardless of who takes charge on a permanent basis with Haidara viewed as a possible candidate given his experience at both RB Salzburg and Leipzig.

Rangnick even oversaw the Malian's new contract at Leipzig during his time at the club but he is not the only one who has an admiration for the midfielder.

"Doudou is one of my favourite players, I told him today," Mintzlaff said at a press conference. "He fits us perfectly."

When asked if Rangnick could make a move for his former player now that he is at United the Leipzig chief cooled any suggestion of a transfer.

He added: "Of course it is also a player that Ralf Rangnick loves. Nothing will burn for now."

Mintzlaff then went on to reveal Leipzig are looking to secure Haidara on a new contract which will see his current release clause scrapped and hand more power to the club in regards to a possible transfer.
